Star City Casino to Demolish Landmark

Star City Casino has decided enough is enough and is arranging a special night where people can come to the casino sledgehammers in hand and enjoy a little demolition work on a huge landmark.

The landmark that Star City Casino wants their patrons to demolish is the iconic fibre glass rock inside Star City’s main atrium and stands a few levels in height.

This huge icon of Sydney’s casino world has been standing proud within Star City Casino for a long time but like other iconic landmarks such as the Berlin Wall there comes a time when an icon needs to be ripped down to bring in a new era.

Instead of a simple ceremony of workmen coming and taking away the fibre glass rock with no spectators Star City Casino is hoping that the people of Sydney will come and demolish it for them. Star City spokesman, Peter Grimshaw, explained: ”We are looking to have a Berlin Wall-type ceremony where people can smash it up;”…”We think Sydney would like to see the end of it.”

The casino is currently looking at the feasibility of an evening event where the patrons of the casino can come and demolish the rock but safety checks need to be reviewed first before the event can be fully confirmed.

As long as everything goes to plan the event will be held by the end of 2009 and it looks to be a big smash bash full of fun, frolics and freedom to cause demolition.

The demolition of the glass fibre rock as the Star City Casino will be part of a larger redevelopment of the casino that has already begun.

Currently we do not know if those demolishing the rock will actually be able to take home a piece as a keep sake, this will be broadcast once further details have been finalised.
